LEARNING  STYLES

There are many different ways to study, and different styles suit different people. Take the Study Style Quizto see what sort of study methods suit you!

Visual Stylz   Visual learners learn best from SEEING things. If you are a visual learner perhaps you could try some of these things to help with your study…

  • Try using colour in your notes. Use different coloured pens or highlighters. Even try different coloured paper.
  • Draw pictures and diagrams to help explain your notes, mind maps can be particularly useful. It is these that will help you remember later on.
  • Make flash cards using images and different colours.
Kinaesthetic Stylz   Kinaesthetic learners learn best by DOING things. If you are a kinaesthetic learner perhaps you could try some of these things to help with your study…
  • Try moving around when you are studying at home.
  • Make some “jigsaw” study cards. You could try pairs of jigsaw cards that fit together where you have to fit the question and answer together.
  • Have a squish ball in your hand to stop you getting side-tracked or fidgeting.
  • Try making up a rhyme or a song to remember key points

Audio Stylz   Auditory learners learn best from HEARING things. If you are a auditory learner perhaps you could try some of these things to help with your study…

  • Try studying with a friend and explaining to each other what you know about each topic. Ask each other questions and see how much you know!
  • Record your notes, lie back in a comfortable spot and listen to them.

Most people are a mixture of learning styles, try mixing up the different hints to see which suit you.

General Hints

  • Practice remembering information, the more you do this the stronger the links to that information in your brain are.
  • Study at the best time for you. Are you a morning person or a night person? Notice when it is that you concentrate best and when it is that your mind drifts off.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, it is hard to concentrate when you are squirming.
  • Study to music without words. Baroque music is particular good for concentration.
  • Use flash cards. These are cards with a question or hint on one side, and the answer on the other side. They are good for practicing what you know.
  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.
  • Make sure you take regular breaks. Take a 10 minute break every hour and walk around. It is important to get the blood flowing to your brain!

History

Makro is part of the Dutch SHV Group (Steenkolen Handels-Vereeniging), foudend in 1896. The SHV Group nowadays is a holding of various companies with different missions and activities.
Makro is a leading company in the Cash and Carry Wholesale business operating in Asia and in South America with stores in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Its services are directed to professional customers and aim to offer quality products at low prices.
Makro Worldwide:

  • 1968: Makro initiates its activities in Amsterdam (Holland) witj a Cash and Carry concept;
  • 1972: Makro in Brazil – The Makro concept was introduced sucessfully for the first time in South America, in Brazil;
  • 1988: Makro in Argentina – Opening of the first store in Olivos, Buenos Aires province;
  • 1989: Makro in Thailand – Makro starts its operations in Asia with the first store in Bangkok, Thailand;
  • 1992: Makro in Venezuela – Opening from its first store in La Urbina, Caracas;
  • 1995: Makro in Colombia – Makro opens the doors from first store in Cumara to the customers in Bogota;
  • 1998: Opening of the regional Head Office in São paulo Brazil to give support to the South Ametrican region;
  • 2009: Makro in Peru – On the 14th of July 2009, Makro inaugurates its first store in the Independência district in Lima, initiating the process of expansion of the company in this country.
